Block I was planted in 2010 on lacustrine (lake bottom) soils rich in clay, always with a 30–50-centimeter layer of sand, which winemaker Juan Pablo Murgia believes is the most expressive of the property. And it is. Here the fruity sensation begins on the nose, with delicious aromas of red fruits and continues on the palate with a nervy texture full of fiber accompanied by vibrating acidity. A wine full of light and energy and an excellent display of potential. Following the logic of Burgundy, if chardonnay grows well on the shores of Lake Musters, pinot obviously will too. A thousand 12-bottle cases were made of this wine.

Otronia is a vineyard in Chubut, in the far south of Patagonia, where the cool climate is ideal for varieties with a short ripening cycle such as Pinot Noir. Made by Juan Pablo Murgia and Alberto Antonini, Block I comes from the most calcareous section resulting in an expressive nose of cherry, raspberry, liquorice, damp earth, graphite and a hint of clove. In the mouth it’s tense with a good tannic structure and a refined but intense character.
