It's silky-smooth with polished red fruits that form beneath an air of inner violet florals. This finishes long and staining yet only lightly structured with a bump of residual acidity that maintains a lovely balance.

Give it a swirl or two to blow off the initial funk and enjoy the dried red fruit, violets and earthy oak aromas, which follow through a full-bodied palate with grainy tannins and the emphasis on spicy oak. Perhaps a little too much as it turns everything very savory by the end. Yet, it’s tasty and fun to drink even now.

Against all odds, the 2020 Cabernet Franc, from a warm and dry year, feels fresher and more harmonious than the two other vintages I tasted next to it, the cooler 2019 and 2021. It contains some 10% Malbec that fermented together with the Cabernet Franc, which feels very integrated and softened the tannins that feel velvety but without losing grip. It spent 15 months in ancient oak foudres, and the oak feels very integrated. 23,500 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2022.

The 2020 Cabernet Franc incorporates a 10% touch of Malbec and originates from Gualtallary in the Uco Valley. It underwent a 15-month aging process in used foudres. It's a dark and intense purple color. The nose reveals notes of ashes and herbs, interwoven with a subtle hint of jalapeño, set against a backdrop of black fruit and cedar. Dry and delicately lean, the palate is tightly structured and juicy, thanks to its fine-grained tannins. The vibrant palate concludes with a lingering thyme finish.

Full-bodied, the palate delivers vibrant, lively black fruit and mineral layers, supported by velvety tannins, finishing long and fragrant. Really different.

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is a charming, sweetly fruited effort with loads of character. Medium to full-bodied, with a layered, sexy, rounded style on the palate, it's perfect for enjoying any time over the coming 10-12 years or more.

Drawn from a site in Coombsville, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Affinity is a dark-fruited, slightly herbal effort, with hints of sage that clog around the edges of the blackcurrant core. It's medium to full-bodied, concentrated and dense but not unapproachable, with ripe tannins that join mouthwatering fruit on the finish.

This is a stunning, well-balanced and crunchy Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Fresh and precise. It shows notes of red berries, cherries, bay leaves, wild herbs and baking spices. Medium -to full- bodied with fine tannins. It has a bright center-palate with freshness and harmony. It’s vibrant and zesty with a similar long finish. Drink or hold.
