The 2020 Pinot Noir Isabelle is a blend of the best barrels across all the vineyards Au Bon Climat sources from. Dark and enveloping, the Isabelle has a ton to offer. Dark red/purplish fruit, spice, lavender and licorice are nicely pushed forward. There's minimal stem inclusion here, and that comes through in the wine's lush fruit and supple contours.

Remarkably pretty and floral, the warm vintage 1996 Ciallabianco is a finessed and delicate effort with spearmint and almond custard suggestions embellishing ripe peach. It's soothingly round with a salty tinge and fresh acidity. A savory wave of pit fruits and green citrus tones settle on the palate. The 1996 tapers off with tension, long and staining yet still fresh and lightly structured. This is in a gorgeous place, and there is no fear of decline.

This is the third release, and despite the challenging vintage, winemaker Maya Dalla Valle and founder and proprietor Naoko Dalla Valle, along with winemaker Axel Heinz and CEO Giovanni Geddes da Filicaja of Ornellaia have produced one of the standout wines of the vintage. Effusive blackberry aromas are intermixed with graphite, cassis, liquorice, toasty cedar wood and tanned leather. This is a seamless wine with superb structure, freshness, and depth of character. Medium to full-bodied with rich dark cassis, loamy earth, elegant, fine-grained tannins, dusted wild herbs, brown spices, and a fabulously long mocha-tinged finish. It almost defies gravity—dense and powerful, yet with a tremendous lightness of energy. Sold in 3-pack wooden boxes.

Loaded with scents of blueberries, black cherries and cassis underpinned by a framework of cedary oak, DVO's 2020 Red Wine is a 300-case blend of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Merlot aged 23 months in 60% new French oak. Full-bodied without being overly high octane, it shows admirable suppleness and ripe tannins. A blend of fruit from Oakville and Coombsville, it's almost creamy-rich in texture on the palate, then lingers elegantly on the lengthy finish. Nicely done!

Coming from a collaboration between the team at Dalla Valle and Ornellaia in Italy, the 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon yet includes 7% Merlot, and this cuvée is sourced from throughout the valley. It's a brilliant 2020 that I'd be happy to drink. Cassis, darker currants, spicy wood, and chocolate all define the aromatics, and it has terrific purity and elegance. Full-bodied, concentrated, and textured, it has some building tannins that warrant short-term cellaring, but it should have two decades of longevity.

Accendo's 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is every bit as alluring as it was from barrel. Plush and sensual, with no hard edges, the 2019 possesses magnificent balance from start to finish. Dark-fleshed fruit, spice, leather, tobacco and menthol build as this sumptuous, racy Cabernet shows off its tremendous charm. Best of all, the 2019 offers quite a bit of immediacy. I would choose to drink it ahead of some of the more structured recent vintages. As always, the Accendo Cabernet is a blend of several top sites in Napa Valley.

Bart and wife Daphne established Wheeler Farms after selling their Araujo Estate (now Eisele Vineyard) to the Artemis Group. Grapes are sourced from Vine Hill Ranch, Sleeping Lady in Rutherford, Eco Tone (a former Abreu property), and a site on Diamond Mountain formerly known as Reverie. Generous blackberry fruit aromas are tinged with wild herbs and heady cedar spices. Broad and expansive on the palate with saturated dark fruit, cassis, graphite and wild herbs. Rustic, elongated tannins glide to a savoury finish.

All Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Benchland Select comes from both Rutherford and Oakville fruit and spent 22 months in 56% new French oak. This brings another level of precision and focus compared to the Suscol Springs, and the wine has a stunning array of black raspberries, spicy oak, lead pencil shavings, and exotic baking spice and floral nuances. Medium to full-bodied, beautifully balanced, and elegant, it has ultra-fine tannins, perfectly integrated background oak, and a great finish. It has plenty of structure and will benefit from 3-4 years of bottle age and should still be going strong at age 20.

It's medium to full-bodied, edging just past 14% alcohol while still seeming generous and silky in feel, finishing long and harmonious, with a dusting of fine-grained tannins.

Violet and cassis notes are accented by hints of crushed stone and pencil shavings on the nose. Hugely complex yet harmonious, this medium-bodied effort is firm but silky in feel, with a long, elegant finish. Lovely stuff.

From a site with schistic galestro clay soils, the 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Poggio al Granchio is definitely the most complete and complex of these new releases from 2019 by Val di Suga. Fruit comes from an 18-hectare vineyard located at 430 to 450 meters in elevation. The wine offers more oozing richness and concentration in line with the character of the vintage with sweet cherry, blackberry, toasted cumin seed and pressed rose. This estate does a good job of maintaining the freshness of Sangiovese. Some 12,000 bottles were made.
